As the Body Corporate of a block of apartments in Spring Hill in Brisbane, we chose Marian after visiting her website and noting some of her designs which were varied and creative. Marian was also verbally recommended for her work.
Marian worked within our brief to refresh and redesign our garden beds so that our gardens and poolside beds were attractive all year round, water efficient and fairly low maintenance.
Marian also worked well within our budget, incorporating some of the well-established plants with some colourful new plantings to give a very pleasing effect. Her plan included the positioning of the plants and advice on how the plantings would look over time.
We elected to have Marian visit on-site 4 times a year to review progress, make recommendations on the practical elements of feeding, pest control, and the overall management of the plants, soil / mulching and watering regime. She has used these quarterly visits to great effect and we are really seeing the benefits of her working with our on-site managers. Her knowledge is very comprehensive and our gardens are flourishing. The written reports, including photographs, are terrific for keeping the Body Corporate members well informed of what is happening with their investment.
We have no hesitation in recommending Marian
We would highly recommend Marian to anyone who is considering re-designing or improving their garden. Marian is a wealth of knowledge and provided us with tips to improve our soil before planting as well as types of plants to use.
She was great with providing ideas to us for our garden and worked with what we already had and also gave us fresh new ideas to use.
We will certainly have Marian back again to help us out.

“To whom it may concern.
Waterfront Place engaged Marian Hammond in 2011 to provide horticultural design to an existing landscaped area overlooking the Brisbane River. The existing area had not had any significant works for 20 years. The design brief was to enhance the property and retain the sub-tropical look and feel of Brisbane.
Throughout the construction phase Marian monitored the progress, quality of materials and workmanship. Her keen eye for detail and determination to achieve the finished product we were looking for, resulted in a beautiful array of colour, healthy plants and inviting environment. All stakeholders have commented positively on the look and feel of the refurbished area.
We have recently appointed Marian to continue with the design of the remaining landscaped areas.
I have no hesitation in recommending Marian to a property Owner or Manager who is seeking a well-designed and professionally managed landscape project.”
“We absolutely love our garden, everything has turned out looking better than we had ever imagined it would,
and it is obvious one year later that all of Marian’s plant choices are perfect for this area as everything is thriving.
There is no way we could have achieved the look we wanted, using native plants without Marian’s vision and knowledge.”
“Marian immediately understood the brief that we gave her to restore the character of the garden to match the style of our Queenslander house to build, in stages, a series of different garden rooms. Each area offered a different experience, and yet still formed a coherent whole garden.
We are thrilled with the result. Each of the gardens offers different plants, colors and perfumes throughout the year. Marian has gone to great lengths to find unusual plants that were once a common feature in early twentieth century gardens.
Prior to Marian’s involvement we were very disappointed in the garden we were presented with. Lovely old fashioned, well established plants had been pulled up to allow house renovations to take place and we had hoped to see the character of the garden restored along those lines. Instead, the planting was unimaginative and failed to thrive.
With Marian’s input the garden is now what we had hoped for and we are enjoying it greatly.”
“Marian you are positively wonderful!! What would I do without you. I am extremely happy.”
“The Edge Body Corporate has engaged the services of Marian Hammond on several occasions over the last 6 years. We have found Marian’s knowledge and expertise in designing and helping us maintain our gardens very helpful. The Edge complex has extensive gardens and Marian works together with the Committee members and Caretaker to understand the desired outcome for our residents. We have again asked Marian to help us design our street gardens and are looking forward to the transformation in the new year. We would highly recommend Marian Hammond if you are considering a manageable garden upgrade.”
“Marian Hammond was commissioned by the body corporate to design the new landscaping project for Flynn Apartments. Marian’s services were retained to provide expert advice to the body corporate and contractor undertaking the works. Marian was a pleasure to work with and is an expert in her field. I have no hesitation in recommending Marian to other prospective clients.”
“We had a couple of years of frustrations with pests, fungi, possums, wrong fertilisers, excessive watering, gas company pipework poisoning our trees and none of the landscape gardeners we approached over that time could offer a clear strategy or much help. With our hopes fading, we did a Google search for a local horticulturist and found Marian Hammond – and what a delight.
Marian was onto all of our problems quickly and accurately. Marian is one of the most knowledgeable “green thumbs” we have ever met – she could diagnose a problem on the spot (trees, creepers, plants, lawns, potted plants) and immediately start outlining the best approach for their resolution.
Because of Marian’s expertise and intervention on our behalf, we now have our landscape problems largely resolved, a much healthier garden, trees are thriving and we have a reliable written plan for the custodianship and care of our landscaped surrounds into the future.
In our experience, Marian Hammond is one of the most talented, courteous and effective horticulturists in Brisbane.”
